Come to Critzer Family Farms in Afton to pick your own peaches and blackberries...one of the only farms in the area that lets you do so!
Description: Pick your own blackberries and peaches
Price: $1 a pound for peaches; $4.50 a pound for blackberries
Distance: About 1 hour from Lynchburg
Why it's a treasure: Delicious fruit for a cheap price

I'm not really sure what we were thinking, but we came home from Critzer Farm with ELEVEN pounds of peaches. That's a lot, especially when my hubs recently stated he didn't like peaches. Ooops.
Not many orchards actually let you pick your own fruit in the area. We went on a wild-goose chase a few weeks ago trying to find peach-picking closer to Lynchburg, without success. There's apparently a harmful disease (to plants, not humans) called Boxwood that spreads rapidly. One orchard owner told us she has to wear a Hazmat-like suit when picking to avoid contamination...no thanks.
Critzer Family Farm though, offers a huge orchard that is yours for the picking. They have all types of peach varieties, including the sweetly succulent donut peaches! The price is also a steal at a dollar for a pound of peaches (hence the eleven pounds).

The farm also has blackberry bushes for picking, too. They obviously can't be using unlawful steroids, but those puppies are HUGE. I don't think I can buy Kroger blackberries in good conscience ever again.

Head out to Critzer for some beautiful views and tasty fruit! Good luck getting home (or getting through the orchard...) without digging in!
